Dealing with large amounts of sensitive information
is par for the course for the healthcare industry.
Patient confidentiality must be addressed, and a system
needs to be in place to provide the best possible environment
to protect their privacy.
David McCann is the Director of Management Information
Systems (MIS) for the St. Francis Medical Center. A
large part of his job is to make sure hospital messaging
and documentation systems run smoothly.
"We've implemented Biscom's FAXCOM fax server throughout
our entire organization, eliminating about half of
our fax machines, and in part, the need for paper faxes," explains
McCann. "Fewer hard copy faxes helps dramatically with
patient confidentially, and efficiency is greatly enhanced
as electronic faxes can now be delivered straight to
recipients computer desktops."
The fax server system at St. Francis has greatly improved
not only patient confidentiality, but also efficiency
in patient care. Meds prescribed by physicians, and
ordered from the pharmacy by nurses, are now received
through the fax server system. This provides the pharmacy
with a record of all transactions. Thus, paper is eliminated
and data tracking is enhanced.
There are many advantages to implementing an enterprise
network fax solution: protection from viruses, providing
a more secure delivery method than email, a verifiable
transmission log, one-to-one connectivity and convenience
of computer desktop delivery and transmission.
The Research Department at St. Francis is another
area where the fax server has become instrumental.
Physicians submit research requests on medical educational
or research and developmental matters which need to
be tracked and processed. Once the department obtains
answers, the results are sent via the FAXCOM system
directly to the doctors' office(s), providing efficiency.
"The fax server easily paid for itself in the first
year of its operation, and the support provided by
Biscom to get us up and running was excellent," states
McCann. "FAXCOM is a true 'fire it up and forget it'
solution. It just sits in your infrastructure and runs
and runs. FAXCOM is the total healthcare fax server."
Since 1986, Biscom has provided the healthcare industry
with reliable enterprise fax management and secure
document delivery technologies. Biscom provides software-based
and complete turnkey information technology systems
to some of the world's leading companies. The company's
FAXCOM servers provide enterprise-wide solutions that
are reliable, scalable and flexible.
