Biscom And vVault Partner to Offer Secure Document Delivery

New solution enables users to send and receive files to and from electronic safety deposit box

New York, NY (October 3, 2000) - At the Financial Technology Expo today, Biscom, a leading provider of enterprise fax management solutions, and vVault Inc., a provider of secure online file management solutions, announced that they will work together to provide secure document delivery solutions.

"Although many organizations use email to transmit important confidential documents, many users do not realize that Internet email via SMTP is quite insecure," explains Chris MacKenzie, Vice President of Marketing and Business Development for Biscom. "If a hacker can gain access to an insecure mail server or even the right IP packets, a message can be read or altered. Our goal is to provide a family of document delivery solutions that are both safe and secure."

The secure document delivery solution allows users to deposit documents into an electronic safety deposit box from an application on the desktop or from a production application via an API. The system then sends the user's intended recipient an email or fax notification, which contains no confidential information, of a URL where the electronic safety deposit box and the document can be found. The recipients must then authenticate to the server via a secure login via their web browser and going to the location specified in the email message, before they are granted permission to retrieve the document over a secure (SSL) connection. Senders receive confirmation of the receipt of the document and all transactions are automatically logged.

vVault components also provide the ability to manage documents via wireless devices and handheld computers. According to Will Aldrich, Vice President of Business Development at vVault, "Our web and mobile file management integrate tightly with Biscom's core technologies, which address the structural requirements of large enterprises. We believe that our combined efforts will yield a particularly strong solution for the financial services markets, where control and security of information are mission critical."

In addition to providing document security, document safety can be enhanced with ConServR™, a complementary solution from the Lincoln & Co. division of Biscom. ConServR is a document rendering engine that enhances the ability of users to send documents safely via both internal email servers and web-based mail services. ConServR prevents email viruses from being distributed via attachments, allows recipients to view attachments without the applications themselves, and limits recipients' abilities to alter any attachments by rendering native Windows application files into image file formats. For further information on ConServR, see www.biscom.com/2000pr.htm#conservr or www.lincolnco.com/ConServrData.htm.

The secure document delivery solution also integrates with Biscom FAXCOM enterprise fax management systems. Adds MacKenzie, "Now, a user will have a choice of delivering a document via fax or to an electronic safety deposit box. Either way, users will have a more secure way to deliver documents than ordinary Internet email."

Biscom and vVault will be exhibiting at the Financial Technology Expo in New York in booth #438, October 3-5, 2000, as well as at COMDEX Fall in Las Vegas, booth #L261, November 13-17, 2000.

The secure document delivery solution is currently being offered as an integration service of Biscom Consulting Services.
