Biscom Improves Web Fax Access for Enterprises

New Version of FAXCOM Web Client Adds Scalable Security Functionality

Las Vegas, NV (November 13, 2000) - At the COMDEX Show in Las Vegas today, Biscom, a leading provider of enterprise fax management and secure document delivery solutions, announced the availability of an enhanced version of their Web Client for the company's FAXCOM fax servers. The new version automates the process of adding new users, while adhering to enterprise computing security policies, and without adding significant administrative overhead.

The latest version of the FAXCOM Web Client offers administrators the option to handle user authentication through Microsoft's Integrated Windows Authentication. Administrators establish groups of users who are authorized users of the Web Client. Whenever these group members log in to a Windows NT or Windows 2000 network, they are automatically logged in to the FAXCOM Web Client with their network user name and password.

For non-Windows based organizations or for browsers that do not support Integrated Windows Authentication, users will be able to use Basic Authentication, whereby a user enters a valid Windows NT account name and password into a dialog box rendered by the user's Web browser. As a further benefit to administrators of enterprise fax networks, the FAXCOM Web Client back-end administration component generates new Web Client user profiles automatically whenever a new user logs in. When a new account is created, the Web Client can automatically assign a new fax number to the user.

"We implemented this new feature in response to input from a long-standing customer in the aerospace industry with an enormous user base and with the requirement to implement a scalable solution that offered minimal user management," according to Albert Leung, principal architect of the FAXCOM Web Client. "We have learned that many other large customers are excited about the capability to automatically create new fax users and assign fax numbers to users, while adhering to strict corporate security policies."

Biscom's Web Client works in conjunction with the robust FAXCOM fax server, providing users with a browser-based interface from which to send, receive and monitor their faxes, accessible via corporate intranet or the Internet. Moreover, because this interface is a Web version of Biscom's FAXCOM Manager interface, no additional user training is required for users currently using the FAXCOM solution. And, as a browser-based product, the Web Client has the additional advantage of being platform independent, enabling users to extend fax capabilities not only to Windows users, but also to UNIX and Macintosh users.

"With the FAXCOM Web Client, mobile workers can access their faxes from different workstations, from home, or from their laptop in the field," explains Chris MacKenzie, Vice President of Marketing and Business Development for Biscom. "Users do not require additional administration or special software, other than a browser, installed on their systems." A complete FAXCOM solution, including all fax software, a 2-port FAXCOM 3000 fax server, and the new Web Client interface with a 100-user license is available for $9,995.00. Biscom will be exhibiting at the COMDEX trade show in Las Vegas from November 13-17, 2000 in booth #L261.
