Biscom Introduces FAXCOM Server 5.0 At NetWorld+Interop®
2001 Las Vegas
FAXCOM Server 5.0 is a Versatile Fax and Messaging Server with Superior Reliability,
Manageability and Performance
Las Vegas, NV (May 8, 2001) - At the NetWorld+Interop 2001 Las Vegas show today, Biscom,
Inc., a leading provider of enterprise fax management solutions, introduced FAXCOM Server 5.0. The
new product includes installation and management enhancements and supports tighter integration of
email and fax. New capabilities include wireless access and secure document delivery. FAXCOM Server
5.0 is available immediately.
"With version 5.0, Biscom has refreshed and enhanced FAXCOM, retaining all the existing fax functionality
from version 3.1 while extending it beyond fax to email and web-based document delivery, unified
messaging and even the ability to manage messages via wireless devices," says Peter Davidson, fax
and unified communications industry analyst with Davidson Consulting and fax research manager at
IDC. "This new version not only installs and runs faster right now, it also lays the foundation
for a solution that will process any types of document, whether generated from legacy hosts, email
servers, PCs or Macs, and transport them in suitable format to any fax, communications device or
mailbox, according to recipient preferences."
FAXCOM Server 5.0 includes improved centralized management, crash prevention and self-repair capabilities,
to deliver improved reliability, maintainability and performance to the customer. Biscom has also
enhanced the administrative interface of FAXCOM Server 5.0 with a new, easy-to-use Configuration
Wizard. FAXCOM Server 5.0's new modular design supports higher density systems and provides a boost
in performance of up to 25%.
The new product is available either as a turnkey system or as customer-installable software so
that users may choose the option that best fits their needs. Customers can choose: a pre-installed,
pre-configured, fully tested system which Biscom creates on hardware provided either by Biscom or
by the customer; alternatively, the customer can configure a customer-installed system, with the
FAXCOM server software obtained from Biscom, and the fax boards either provided by the customer
or obtained from Biscom.
"We are committed to driving superior quality to our customers and pushing the cutting edge of
the information delivery and management market," said Don Dunning, president of Biscom. "Improved
reliability, manageability and performance and tighter integration of email and fax, coupled with
the tools for quicker, easier system administration make FAXCOM Server 5.0 a powerful tool for managing
enterprise data delivery."
FAXCOM Server 5.0 supports the integration of the following messaging capabilities:
- Transaction Messaging -enables customers to email transaction documents from an accounting
system, ERP system, or mainframe application. The server takes PCL, PostScript and TIFF print
image files from these systems and sends them as email with a TIFF or PDF attachment.
- Unified Messaging - enables FAXCOM servers to work directly with products from leading
vendors such as: Lucent, Cisco, Nortel, Nokia and Siemens to implement access to faxes in a unified
messaging mailbox. Users call into their voice mail for a list of faxes they have received, and
can then either forward them to a fax machine or view them directly from a Domino, Exchange or
GroupWise mailbox.
- Wireless Access - gives users the flexibility to access faxes and documents from wireless
devices. Users are able to access their secure-login account via any WAP-enabled device, such
as a cellular phone or PDA, and deliver documents to any email address or fax machine.
- Secure Document Delivery - developed with Biscom partner vVault, enables users to deposit
documents into an electronic safety deposit box from an application on the desktop or from a production
application via an API. The application sends the recipient an email or fax notification of the
URL where the electronic safety box and the document can be found. The recipients are then authenticated
to the server before being granted permission to retrieve the document. The sender then receives
confirmation that the document was received.
Additionally, FAXCOM Server 5.0 offers a variety of telephony integration options including T1,
PRI, ISDN, E1, BRI digital lines; loop start and/or Direct Inward Dial (DID) analog lines. Should
the customer choose a TI line, Biscom will conduct a T1 pre-installation screening to help ensure
a smooth installation of the FAXCOM server.
The new product also includes the unique ability to perform automatic end-to-end tests on the path
faxes take between the client, the host computer or mail servers, the inbound and outbound ports
of the FAXCOM Server, the PBX and the PSTN. With FAXCOM Server 5.0's capability to pinpoint and
report a problem, customers can quickly solve broken lines of communication or immediately report
problems to the telephone company so they can get up and running again quickly.
FAXCOM Server 5.0 simultaneously supports full integration with multiple networks, operating systems
and applications, including: Windows 2000/NT, Lotus Domino, SMTP, MS Exchange, AS/400, ERP
systems, NDS, GroupWise and IBM Mainframes. The new server also runs on Windows 2000 and supports
Windows NT.
FAXCOM Server 5.0 is currently shipping and a special upgrade program will be available for FAXCOM
Server customers. FAXCOM Server 5.0 can be seen at booth # 328 at NetWorld + Interop 2001 in Las
Vegas, Nevada.
