Biscom Announces New Senior Vice President
James Lincoln Appointed to Newly Established Role
Chelmsford, MA (May 30, 2003) – Biscom, the
pioneer developer of enterprise network fax servers,
today announced the appointment of James Lincoln to
the newly created position of Senior Vice President.
Dr. Lincoln joined Biscom in 1997 when the company
acquired Lincoln & Co., the firm he founded in
1978. In his new role Dr. Lincoln will direct all of
Biscom’s marketing and sales operations.
“I look forward to this new responsibility with
great enthusiasm,” says Lincoln. “Biscom
is a remarkable company. It is small, but its systems
are used in critical operations at some of the most
important organizations in the world. I hope to help
focus our marketing, product, and sales activities
on areas where our strong technology and outstanding
support can provide the greatest benefits, primarily
in healthcare, finance, and government communications.
Biscom Inc. is a 17-year old Massachusetts company
that produces document delivery systems for enterprise
and host-based environments, supporting of FAX, E-Mail
and Internet Mail. Major organizations have employed
the company’s systems as crucial components within
their workflow environments. As examples, Biscom has
provided software-based and complete turnkey information
technology systems to more than 300 hospitals, 9 US
Senators, and to several of the largest financial institutions
in the world. The company’s products are also
found as components of specialized IT systems from
McKesson, Siemen’s Medical Solutions, GE Medical
Systems, and others.
Lincoln comes to this new position with many years
of experience in the information technology field.
After graduation from Swarthmore College, at the end
of the Korean crisis, he was inducted into the Army,
serving as an enlisted engineer at the Aberdeen Proving
Ground in Maryland. Upon discharge, he entered Harvard
and worked to obtain a PhD in Applied Mathematics.
He then worked at MIT’s Instrumentation Lab as
part of the group that designed the guidance system
for the Apollo landings, and at the Sperry Rand Research
Center as head of the Computer Research Department.
In 1970 Dr. Lincoln and an associate founded Linolex
Systems, Inc., to develop a forerunner of the personal
computer. He stayed with Linolex for three years after
3M acquired it in 1975, but decided that he preferred
the variety and excitement of the small company, and
left to found Lincoln & Co. Among other developments,
Lincoln & Co. created controller designs for the
original laser printers sold by DEC, Minolta, Ricoh,
and others. Later, the company produced software to
convert printer control formats such as PostScript
and HP PCL into images for use with computer based
fax systems and other applications. This conversion
software and its derivatives still remain part of Biscom’s
product line.
Lincoln and his wife live in Concord, MA. Their son
is a physician, their daughter is a social worker,
and they have two grandsons.
