New Release of FAXCOM CV & CV Plus - Tighter integration with GE Centricity® EMR

Next month, Biscom will release new versions of its FAXCOM CV and CV Plus applications. The FAXCOM CV (Clinical Version) product suite integrates with GE Centricity Electronic Medical Record (EMR) to provide automated fax capabilities from within patient records. This integration makes it easy to fax prescription requests and other documents to pharmacies, doctor’s offices, and many other locations. Faxes received to FAXCOM CV can be imported into the EMR using workflow applications such as Kryptiq DocuTrak and Encore Imaging’s Magician.

The new release includes several features that have been requested by our customers, including:

  • Capability of importing fax completion statuses into the patients’ chart – configured for successful faxes, unsuccessful faxes, or both.
  • Capability of having the rendered fax image imported into the patients’ chart – configured for successful faxes, unsuccessful faxes, or both.
  • Capability of sending flags (notifications) on failed faxes to the original sender or an assigned administrator.
  • Allowing different configurations for different locations of care.

Biscom has partnered with GE Healthcare since 2004 in offering integrated inbound and outbound fax capabilities to EMR users. This new product release is available to FAXCOM CV and CV Plus customers with an active Biscom technical support contract.

Improving the Hospital Scheduling Workflow

The Central Scheduling Office at North Shore Medical Center in Salem, MA is responsible for receiving and processing the many requests that come in each day for such services as MRIs, CT Scans, and surgical procedures. Prior to transitioning to a paperless workflow with Biscom’s FAXCOM Image Indexing solution, NSMC received scheduling requests to traditional paper fax machines. Scheduling office staff retrieved these paper documents, entered data from the paper fax into their scheduling application, and began the scheduling process. Once the process was complete, the scheduler then filed the paper documents to a file cabinet.

“The old process was really inefficient,” said Debra Murphy, Director of Patient Access for NSMC. “Our schedulers were routinely walking to and from the fax machine, and to and from file cabinets.”

NSMC wanted to continue receiving scheduling requests via fax so that there would be no disruption in the way physicians’ offices communicate with the Central Scheduling Office. NSMC contacted Biscom to discuss their need for a paperless workflow solution to receive, schedule, store, and index fax requests for medical procedures, and found a fit with Biscom’s FAXCOM Image Indexing solution.

Central Scheduling Workflow with FAXCOM Image Indexing

“It used to take 90 seconds, on average, to take a paper fax into the scheduling step of our workflow.
Now it takes 10 seconds!” said Debra Murphy.
