Image Workflows & Data Capture

Biscom’s Image Indexing application is designed for creating, managing, and participating in imaging workflows. Images can originate from any number of sources, including received faxes, scanned paper documents, and electronic files. The Image Indexing solution provides a way to capture, store, and act on the content of these images.

Administrators create and manage imaging workflows through an MMC (Microsoft Management Console), and workflow participants use the Image Indexing client to perform their role-specific actions. Workflows can consist of user-initiated actions as well as robotic actions – actions that occur automatically in response to a user-initiated action.

Workflow examples include:

  • A hospital scheduling office receives faxes requesting CT scans, MRIs, and other appointments. The fax images are received to Image Indexing and processed through a multi-step workflow.

  • A wholesale supplier receives product orders via fax from retail stores. The product orders are differentiated and processed through product-specific workflows.

  • A government customs office receives requests from carriers to release shipments for international delivery. Multiple documents are sent in that must be correlated with one another. Each workflow step includes alarms if it is not completed in the time expected.

To learn more about Image Indexing, register for our two part Webcast series. The first presentation will provide an application overview and demonstration, and the second presentation will provide a case study of a multi-role workflow that illustrates the diverse feature set of Image Indexing.

Using OCR & Barcodes to Process Received Faxes

OCR can be very useful in routing received faxes. In a mortgage processing workflow, for example, the initial mortgage application includes the title “New Loan Application” at the top. When these faxes are received to the lender, the received fax TIFF image is converted to a Searchable PDF, the document is correctly identified as a new application, and it is routed to a workflow for new loan applications. Later in the loan process, additional documents are received by fax, and OCR is used to retrieve the loan number so that the additional documents can be associated with the original application.

Barcodes are used in fax workflows where the fax receiver has created forms with barcodes that identify the fax sender, or identify the type of document. For example, there are many forms for the different services provided by a state’s Registry of Motor Vehicles (RMV). These forms are available in RMV offices and on RMV Websites, and each form typically includes a barcode. When these forms are completed and faxed in to the RMV, the fax server reads the barcode, identifies whether the form is a registration renewal, a change of address, or another request, and delivers the fax to the correct workflow.

Free Trial Accounts Offered for New HD-IPFax Software

Biscom recently launched a new product suite for secure delivery of High Resolution (HD) color documents. The new product suite combines Biscom’s HD-IPFax and BDS applications to support Internet-based Push and Pull document delivery.

HD-IPFax is a new product from Biscom that Pushes scanned documents, as well as various PC-generated files – including video with audio, PDF, and JPG – as a point-to-point IP network delivery to the recipient desktop. Biscom’s BDS product line is a complementary application that provides secure document delivery for recipients who are not HD-IPFax users. The BDS server notifies recipients via email that a delivery is ready for download. The recipient clicks a link in the email message to complete a Pull delivery.
