Chelmsford, MA – Biscom (www.biscom.com), a 22-year leader in document communications technology, today announced the commencement of market trials for DiNet—a new secure communications platform that is specifically focused on the needs of the dental health industry. DiNet will provide secure electronic delivery of dental images and patient records.
With the rapid transition from film to digital imaging, the dental health industry needs to ensure proper transmission of electronic images and patient records. Biscom is working closely with dentists to help further define this new platform by participating in market trials, offered at the Yankee Dental Congress, and on its Web site, dinet.biscom.com, at no cost to them.
The platform incorporates several of Biscom’s major technologies including traditional and high-definition Internet fax, secure file delivery, and file conversion. DiNet works from within dentists’ already existing practice management and dental imaging systems, making it easy for them to adopt the solution.
"DiNet builds on our long and successful track record in the healthcare industry," said Don Dunning, C.E.O. of Biscom.“ Just as we have helped thousands of doctors improve the efficiency of their medical practices with our other healthcare solutions, DiNet will keep records secure, provide fast reliable delivery and help dentists comply with HIPAA and other state privacy regulations. DiNet is a natural progression for Biscom with its proven solutions for electronic delivery and fulfillment of pharmacy orders, medical billing, insurance claims, clinical scheduling, and medical records communication,” added Dunning.
Dentists may need to provide patient records and images for a variety of reasons, including:
- Providing information to specialists
- Sending appointment reminders to patients
- Assisting in legal claims or forensics
In all cases, the patients’ privacy must be protected, the images must be accurate when they arrive, and the information needs to be delivered quickly. However, current methods used by many dental offices to transfer information may not provide all the benefits that DiNet provides. For instance, Email transfer is easy but it doesn’t meet HIPAA standards or state data encryption regulations, using a courier is costly, regular mail is slow. Faxes scanned and transmitted through conventional fax machines are fast and reliable, but with image distortion resulting from the manual scanning process.
Because DiNet is integrated with a printer driver within a Dental office’s existing dental imaging and practice management systems, documents can be transmitted directly from within those systems. DiNet offers three convenient ways to communicate:
- Real-time, point-to-point, secure image transfer through Biscom’s high-definition Internet fax (HD-IPFax).
- Email-directed secure file transfer through Biscom Delivery Sever.
- Conventional fax via Biscom’s FAXCOM Anywhere hosted fax services.
Recipients of the information do not need to have the DiNet software installed to obtain their documents. However, with the software installed, senders can scan documents as well as view documents from imaging systems and select only what they want to send, as well as sending point-to-point real time delivery over a patent-pending high-definition Internet fax protocol developed by Biscom.
