Running Red Hat Enterprise Linux ES 3/4, FAXCOM Fax Server on Linux enables you to deploy and configure the Linux gateways that connect your network users to the Linux-based FAXCOM Server: the FAXCOM Queue and the FAXCOM SMTP Gateway. While the FAXCOM Queue is the service that channels emails to the FAXCOM Queue, enabling SMTP Mail users to send emails to fax recipients.

The FAXCOM Queue configuration utility enables you to specify such settings as:
- Inbound routing to directory paths
- Inbound routing to users’ email addresses
- Any dial prefix to add to outgoing fax numbers
- An off-peak time for fax deliveries
- A retry schedule for retrying unsuccessfully delivered faxes
- Any default cover page
- Conditions for resending partially-delivered faxes
- Log creation and delivery
The SMTP Gateway configuration utility enables you to specify such settings as:
- Inbound routing to directory paths
- The FAXCOM Queue to which to channel the email messages
- Any cover page to use
- Whether or not to return a confirmation message for faxes that were successfully delivered (in addition to returning a message for failed faxes)
- User validation
- Sending a message directly to an email address when detecting an error
LDAP Integration
Both the FAXCOM Queue and the SMTP Gateway support integration with an LDAP-compatible directory service. This integration enables an administrator to manage fax services and fax service users without having to export/import users, without having to worry about synchronizing users when changes occur, and with the capability to use policies to manage users’ fax options. Most importantly, LDAP integration enables the FAXCOM Queues to perform directory service lookups to route incoming faxes.
