Most Commonly Asked FAXCOM for Domino Questions

1. How does FAXCOM for Domino work with Domino?
1. How does FAXCOM for Domino work with Domino?

FAXCOM for Domino works with version 8.5 and earlier of Domino Server. All you have to do is create a Foreign Domain for fax within Domino, using any name such as FAX, before you go to install FAXCOM for Domino.

When you then install FAXCOM for Domino, you are prompted for the location of the Foreign Domain you created for fax, so that the fax service can automatically connect to the specified domain to send/receive faxes.

In addition the installation process prompts you to specify the location of the three FAXCOM for Domino databases to be installed- typically on a Domino server of your choice. The databases are the Cover Page database, the Activity Log database and the System Administration database.

Your users can then send faxes within Notes Mail by clicking New Memo and specifying the fax addressing string in the To:, cc:, or Bcc: fields, in the format of name@faxnumber@foreign domain as, for example, John Smith@2504449@fax.

5. Is there a client setup? Will I have to run a separate setup program on everyone's computer?

Yes, there is a client setup, but it is not necessary to run a separate setup program on each user's desktop. The client setup option provides a printer diver and a viewer, neither of which are necessary to send and receive faxes.

The printer driver is used for faxing from any Windows application.

The viewer provided by the client setup is the FAXCOM viewer for viewing TIFF files. Any viewer that can view a TIFF file, including INSO viewer, which is provided by the Notes client and the Imaging viewer, which comes standard with Windows is capable of viewing the incoming faxes.
